Rehabilitation of Tidal Bridge in South Africa

HFG4006 cylinders used to carry out maintenance works on the tidal bridge

Hi-Force South Africa supplied 16 HFG4006 failsafe lock ring cylinders and 1 HEP207212 electric driven pump to Transnet Freight Rail through South African distributors, Renttech and FE Industrial Supplies, to carry out maintenance works on the tidal bridge.

The tidal bridge, which links the mainland to Richards Bay Coal Terminal at the port, has been in the region for over 20 years and required maintenance work to be carried out on the bearings. The bearings were cast in a protective concrete pillar and had a 600mm gap between the main supporting structure and the bridge. With the equipment supplied and supervision by the Hi-Force team, Transnet were successfully able to lift the bridge off the supports and replace the bearings.

Hi-Force South Africa also provided training to Transnet staff on the safe use and operation of the equipment as well as offered technical information on the bridge lift.
